Family is defined as a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. The word is loaded with contrasting emotions depending on ones experiences. One thing is certain. Family is broken. This brokenness began all the way back in Genesis 3 when Adam and Eve fell. Because of Adam and Eve’s sin we all obtain the fallenness of their decision. Therefore, every person is born in sin. Every home is broken from the day it begins. No matter how hard we try, our human fallenness constantly reveals itself. Our only hope is Christ.
Romans 8:20-21 says: “20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.”
We are promised freedom in Christ. Does this mean our families will be free from sin and pain? Not necessarily. But what it does mean is that God is with us and desires that we would approach family biblically. In April Leave a Mark is doing a mini-series on what a biblical family looks like.
